The Explorer received a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA out of a possible five stars and in IIHS testing received a rating of good in four of five categories, and marginal in the newer and more difficult small overlap front test. IT has the moon roof over the rear passengers and the sun roof opens up over the front passengers. Simply put, for almost everything a family would throw at the Ford Explorer, it does it better than before--and it does what the wide majority of us need to do in a crossover.

    The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle. Bluetooth , voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface e. The car icon at times is indicating that the car is off to the right mostly of the actual path or road that the vehicle is traveling. Every time I had to sync again the same cellphone iPhone 4S.

    Paint fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling , loose interior and exterior trim or moldings, rust. It sounds like a swarm of bees. The dealer says sometimes they just can't get it fixed. The paint on the hood will start to bubble, especially on the very front where it meets the grill. This has happened to my vehicle in less than four year of ownership I purchased the vehicle new.

    When I approached Ford with this concern the dealer had me come in so they could take pictures, then had me obtain two body shop quotes to submit to Ford.

    This claim was submitted and denied by Ford. Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, leaks. Examples that sometimes occur: Radio does not respond to touch commands; Navigation system freezes; phone not recognized via bluetooth. I downloaded update to a usb drive then initiated the update. System froze and "bricked" had to take to dealer for a factory reboot. Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage includes rack and pinion , power steering pumps and hoses, leaks , wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

    Alternator, starter, hybrid battery and related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, distributor or rotor failure, spark plugs and wires failure.

Antilock system ABS , parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear. Gear selector or linkage, leaks, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission. Vehicle would roll a few inches before park lock would engage. Power or manual windows, locks and latches, tailgate, hatch or trunk, doors or sliding doors, mirrors, seat controls, safety belts, sunroof, convertible top.

    Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbo or supercharger, timing chain or timing belt. Had miles, was driven for 10 mo. Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, remote engine start, alarm or security system. Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, clutch replacement. Radiator, cooling fan, antifreeze leaks, water pump, thermostat, overheating.
